Hacktivism

Hacktivism refers to actions of misusing a network or computer system in pursuance of social or political activism. Essentially, hacktivists are attempting to draw attention from the public and direct it to an issue in which they are passionate about.

The act of hacktivism is somewhat controversial. Despite many hacktivists operations involving illegal activities, many ordinary citizens find themselves in support of some of these forms of activism.

For example, in 2011 a hacktivist group, Anonymous took down over 40 illegal child pornography websites on the darknet. This operation was able to delve into an area that law enforcement was not able to go and helped expose and terminate disgusting websites while doing so. This hacking campaign, titled “Operation Darknet” earned well-deserved praise and recognition.

My remediation this week depicts sounds that are commonly associated with hacking within popular culture.
